Setup

  1. Set the bench to a low-to-moderate incline.
  2. Bring the dumbbells to shoulder/chest level with feet planted.
  3. Set your upper back against the bench.

How To Perform It

  1. Press upward and slightly inward without banging the dumbbells together.
  2. Lower slowly to a comfortable depth.
  3. Keep wrists stacked over forearms and repeat.

Key ASF Cue

“Use a modest incline - this is a chest press, not a vertical shoulder press.”

Common Mistakes

  • Bench angle too steep.
  • Elbows flaring excessively.
  • Losing upper-back position as the load gets heavy.

Alternatives / Substitutions

Safety Note

Reduce the range or choose another press if the shoulder position is uncomfortable.
